A 77-year-old retired employee from Hyderabad was a victim of a tragic incident of cyber crime. The fraudster impersonated a senior officer of Delhi Police and duped the retired employee of ₹53 lakh.

How The Scam Worked
On June 18, 2025, a cybercriminal named DCP Rajeev Kumar of Delhi Police made a video call to the victim and he was dressed in a police uniform.
The cybercriminal told the victim that the victim was involved in a money laundering case and that his bank account would be frozen unless he could prove the legitimacy of his funds.
Not only had that, to create credibility, the fraudsters also sent fake documents through WhatsApp, which included:

- A fake Supreme Court order
- A fake RBI verification letter
- A fake law enforcement inspection notice
Financial Trap
Fearing arrest, the victim transferred Rs 53 lakh to four bank accounts given by the cybercriminals between June 19 and 26. The cybercriminals promised that the money would be returned once the verification was complete.
But after the money was transferred, the cybercriminals stopped communicating.
When he realizing that he had been scammed, the victim filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police and an investigation was launched.
