Retired Pune Judge Cheated
In a shameful incident of cybercriminals, an 80-year-old retired Pune judge was cheated out of 1.05 crore by a fraudulent IPS officer. The scam, which took place between March and May 2025, involved threats of arrest under the National Security Act (NSA) and demands to transfer money. Forged legal documents were sent on WhatsApp to force him to transfer his life savings.

Modus Operandi of the Scam

- The victim received a video call from an IPS officer of Bihar cadre.
- He accused him of being involved in a money laundering case of 2 crore and claimed that he had been given the responsibility of investigating it.
- To intimidate him, he showed him a fake digital arrest warrant containing his Aadhaar details.
- The victim was asked to transfer money to a government account for verification and was warned not to disclose the matter to anyone.
Financial Loss
Over a period of a few weeks, the victim made 10 separate transactions in accounts controlled by the fraudster, totalling 1.05 crore.
He was later asked to pay an additional 17 lakh for a clearance certificate.
Realizing that he had been duped, the judge lodged a complaint with the Pune Cyber Crime Police Station and an FIR was registered.
